Push-hands is not for fighting. Tai Chi Chuan is for fighting. Push-hands helps to hone the necessary techniques to overcome an opponent. But these techniques are not learned during Push-hands practice, they are refined by it. If Tai Chi players are to stand tall with other warriors, then the striking, kicking, joint locks and throwing arts that are hidden within the Tai Chi form must be practiced with the same focused intensity and repetition as that of practitioners of other arts.
